When you don't use a publishing workflow to release draft documents, there are two available options - to authorise the document yourself (and optionally ask others), or to request authorisation from others. If you don't have permission to authorise a given document, you won't see the 'Authorise Document' button. But if you don't see the 'Request Authorisation' button in a draft version, it most likely hasn't been enabled in the system preferences.
How to enable 'Request authorisation' (only available to users with access to the administration area):
- Navigate to 'Administration > Settings > System Preferences'
- Locate the row labelled, 'Miscellaneous Settings' and click it to open the tab
- Find the preference, 'Enable option to Request Authorisation' and tick the checkbox next to it
- Scroll down and click 'Save'
The blue round button 'Request Authorisation' should then appear in documents in draft state.
